The Golf Resort’s Trophy Room

The Golf Resort’s Trophy Room

I have an obsession.

Yes, an obsession with the minutia, ephemera and long-gone attractions, shops and restaurants of the Vacation Kingdom of the World. And not just attractions like the Western River Expedition, but restaurants like the Gulf Coast Room and amenities like the Bob-A-Round boats.

Whenever  I run across an article or piece of information about one of these attractions, I have to find a way to document it. In this case, I found an article from a 1975 WDW News that had a blurb about the Trophy Room at Disney’s Golf Resort. It also included menu choices, prices, and information about the musical duo Amos and Charles.

Diners Enjoy Excellence In Food and Music

Quiet atmosphere, talented entertainment, and excellent food combine for an enjoyable evening at the Golf Resort’s Trophy Room.

Simply and tastefully designed, the restaurant is relaxing and inviting to diners. Wooden beams, reaching into the spacious cathedral ceiling, are com-plemented on the ground level by buckets of palm trees and other live plants. On the walls, photographs from the P .G.A. Golf Classics remind guests that the pros once ate there.

There are intimate corners for romantics and spacious tables for families in the dining room, and both are welcome.

Entertainment is provided by a talented, guitar playing twosome called Amos and Charles. Their versatile voices, combined with some admirable guitar picking and strumming, produce a combination of soft rock, blue grass, country, and folk music. The two invite their audience to request a favorite tune, and they seldom fail to come up with a rendition of the selected song.

Walt Disney World Dining at the Golf Resort's Trophy Room

While the atmosphere and entertainment work to set the stage for an enjoyable dinner, Trophy Room chefs are at work behind the scenes preparing meals to please the tastes of the most discriminating diners.

Appetizers range from escargots, baked in a whole mushroom, topped with Bernaise sauce and served piping hot ($1.95), to bouchee fromage, a of crabmeat sauteed in wine, with cheddar cheese sauce ($2.25).

The salad bar (included with all entrees) starts wjth iceberg lettuce, which is noticeably fresh and crisp, mixed with crunchy cabbage. There is an assortment of fixings including tomatoes, bacon, cheese, and croutons to mix with the greens, plus three bean salad, egg salad, stuffed eggs, and a variety of relishes and raw vegetables to munch on.

Any one of the dozen entrees is a superb dinner choice. The Spanish Prawns are giant red shrimp, stuffed with crabmeat and sauteed in garlic butter ($7.95). Poulette ala Parisienne is tender, boneless breast of chicken, covered with ham, mushrooms, and Mornay sauce ($6.95).

The hearty selection of beef on the menu includes Steak Clovisses, a New York strip steak with chopped baby clams, onions, and mushrooms ($8.25). And the roast Prime Rib of Beef is always tender and succulent ($8.50).

Dessert lovers can indulge themselves with the Black Forest Chocolate Cake, a moist, dark cake interlaced with cherry filling and whipped cream ($. 95). Cheesecake with blueberrysauce ($.95) is a good choice, also.

Dinner is served nightly in theTrophy Room at the Golf Resort from 5:30 p.m. until 10 p.m. There is a special selection of children’s entrees on the menu for youngsters under 12.

Complimentary transportation to the Golf Resort is available to all Walt Disney World® resort guests via motor coach.

  1. Thanks, George. The Golf Resort was always a favorite of our family, my Father especially! It was quiet, great food (there was an amazing champagne brunch on Sundays, with unlimited Champagne, Mimosas and Bloody Marys!) and easy access to golfing. We have stayed here many, many times over the years, (The Disney Inn) and continue to do so today (Shades of Green). The hotel has changed immensely! The rooms, which are still one of the biggest on the property are now heavily discounted, but for military affiliates only. Our last stay here, was the end of July this past year. If I can find some pictures, I will gladly send them to you. I actually still have a Golf Resort logo patch that came off a friends uniform! I have many happy memories of the early days of WDW, starting in July of ’72 and will continue to make many more!

    1. Thanks for sharing the information! I would’ve to see any photos or hear more about your experiences at the resort.

  2. I worked all over WDW in the early 80’s, and remember a character dining experience happening there every evening (Mickey, Minnie, Pluto, Goofy, Chip N Dale). I never saw the guitarists at that point. I think this ran from 1980-83.

    1. Thanks for the comment! I would love to hear more about your time working there. Any great photos to share?
