Deadpool Spoiler Free Review

To Deadpool or not to Deadpool? That is the question…

Deadpool has been a hot topic of conversation at our house. We have a 17 year-old and a 12 year-old that have enjoyed all of the Marvel films. The 12 year-old has begged us to take him to see the film. He’s read the comics and played the video games. His friends have been doing nothing but talking about the film. So, it’s definitely something that needs to be discussed.

So…

Deadpool is funny.

Deadpool is very violent.

Deadpool has very graphic language and very graphic conversations.

Deadpool has nudity.

Deadpool has intercourse scenes.

And Deadpool is very funny.

Ryan Reynolds is spectacular in this role. This movie is up there with Van Wilder as far as my favorite Ryan Reynolds film. Sometimes you think an actor was meant to play a role, but it’s almost as if the role was made for him. Plus, it has Morena Baccarin. You know, from Firefly!

This movie is definitely not for kids under 15, maybe. Parents will spend a lot of time explaining new terms to their kids. And there are many naked people in the movie. The violence never felt over-the-top, like in a Marvel film. It’s still Deadpool, though, and he’s just an insane character, which leads to an insane level of violence. The movie did have a lot more blood and gore than most marvel movies. The movie starts off pretty furious and funny—you have to make sure you pay attention to the opening credits since it helps set the mood for the film.

It is an origin film so you don’t have to know much about the character. The exposition and timing of the story make sense and is pretty darn impressive for a superhero film. Er, uh, merc with a mouth film. I guess.

Parents do have to decide for themselves whether or not to take the kids. I can only tell you that there is nudity and there are sex scenes. And the violence seemed pretty gory compared to the more clinical Marvel fare.

Overall, I really loved the film and I want to see it again. I can’t say that for a lot of films that I’ve seen recently. I was thinking that I really enjoyed this film more than I did enjoy Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but they’re two different movies with two different (and disparate) audiences. Still, I loved The Force Awakens. I can’t wait for the next movies in both of these franchises. There is an X-Men tie-in and the movie made me want to watch the most recent releases in that franchise. It’s also made me look forward to the next X-Men release!

Have you seen Deadpool? What do you think about the film? Leave me a comment!

  1. Glad you wrote this because I felt the commercials on TV made this movie seem “kid friendly” and we knew it would not be. Deadpool has always been a smartass in the comics and I would have been disappointed if they portrayed him as anything less in the movie. Glad you wrote this and hope parents think before they pile in to the mini van with their family to go see Deadpool.
