Daily Figment 03 – Culture

Dr. Carl Hodges, director of the Environmental Research Laboratory of the University of Arizona, consultant on The Land Pavilion, as quoted in Walt Disney’s EPCOT Center on the importance of The Land Pavilion….

….all of human culture is based on the fact that we can feed ourselves easily and therefore we have time to do something else.

What separates us from the animals is that we do not have to spend our entire lives ‘hunting and gathering’ food. A bit of irony in that we go to WDW to have fun and learn about why we can have fun because we can feed ourselves so much easier than the animals. A good friend of mine once told me that what distinguishes food in a can (i.e., Chef Boyardee) from dog food is the label that instructs us to heat it up before we eat it.

Culture schmulture.

  1. Thank goodness I turned my head before I spit all over my monitor after reading Andrew’s Chef Boyardee comment.
